A good ride to support.

From the share the road website:

3rd Annual Share the Road for Greg Ride

On June 6, 2006 Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Greg Stobbart (shown left) was killed on a training ride in Milton, Ontario. In an effort to prevent similar tragedies his wife, family and friends began work on a bicycling advocacy, road safety initiative which will be launched officially on September 28, 2008.

This initiative, known as the Share the Road Cycling Coalition is a grassroots, provincial cycling advocacy organization whose objectives include legislation to target high risk drivers, safer roads for cyclists including enhanced infrastructure, and the creation of education and awareness programs for motorists and cyclists.

The Share the Road Ride is in memory of Greg, and in support of the Share the Road Cycling Coalition.

Over the past two years Eleanor McMahon, Gregs wife has met with and engaged politicians from all three levels of government, law enforcement officials, cycling advocates, planners and municipal officials in Canada, the United States in Europe with a view to creating a Bicycle Friendly Ontario. Eleanor was a speaker at the National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C. in March, 2008 and at the National Bike Rally in Maine in July, 2008.

The past two Rides have featured over 250 cyclists of all abilities riding through the beautiful Halton Hills. Thanks to the generosity of the Ontario Provincial Police and the Halton Region Police Service, there participants can count on a significant police presence.

The Ride begins with a brief moment of silence as cyclists gather at the site of the collision in memory of Greg.
